Electricity availability increase in Burundi

World bank claims that in Burundi only 10% of the population has access to electricity. That is even lower than the average of 44% in the whole sub-Saharan Africa. On the other hand, the potential for renewable energy in Burundi is enormous and this project is a great example. The estimated potential is about 1700 MW in some 156 potential sites in the whole country.

In 2016 a joint tender of Redigeso and World Bank has been launched for a construction of two power stations Jiji and Mulembwe, both located about 100 km from Bujumbara city and CNC TVAR took its part in the supply of 3+3 horizontal Pelton runners.

The project is planned to be fully completed in 2023 and it will significantly contribute to the reliability and availability of electricity, hence directly improving living standards, economic activity, growth, and development for Burundi.
